Better Homes Peterborough

Better Homes Peterborough is a City of Peterborough program designed to help residents reduce their energy use, lower utility bills, and improve home comfort while contributing to a healthier, more climate-resilient community.

Launched in 2025, Better Homes Peterborough offers low-interest, fixed-rate financing to support energy-saving home upgrades such as insulation, heat pumps, windows, and air sealing. The program is available to homeowners across the city, regardless of income level or property type.

Residential buildings currently account for 39% of Peterborough’s local greenhouse gas emissions. With approximately 34,660 homes across the city, deep retrofits are essential to achieving Peterborough’s climate targets: a 45% reduction in emissions by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.

Better Homes Peterborough helps homeowners take action by offering tools, resources, and expert support at every stage of the retrofit journey. From understanding your home’s energy performance to accessing financing and incentives, we’re here to make energy efficiency upgrades easier and more affordable.

This program is made possible through the support of the City of Peterborough and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund.

It is delivered in collaboration with:
